This time of year on the farm is super busy with planting just around the corner. I am always looking for great recipes that are easy and delicious for our family to enjoy! Eating together gives us an opportunity to hear about each other’s day and I just love the stories my 3 year old has to share. So, when Jimmy Dean® contacted me and asked that I share a recipe featuring Jimmy Dean® Roll Sausage this recipe automatically came to mind! It’s made in the crockpot which means I can toss it together in the morning and when I get home from picking up the kids and feeding the heifers, dinner is done!

So, I ran to our local Meijer to the refrigerated section and picked up a couple rolls of the Jimmy Dean® Roll Sausage. For this recipe I used the “Regular” but other flavors are also available including “Country Mild” and “Hot.”

We love Jimmy Dean® Sausage around here and eat it for every meal of the day, not just breakfast. I love to use sausage in my pasta dishes for added flavor and it’s also great in soups. It’s really versatile and can be used in place of ground beef in almost every recipe.

This recipe has multiple layers; sausage, potatoes and sauce. Start by browning and draining you sausage and slicing you potatoes. One of these slicers helps speed up the process. We are peel people so I left the peel on the potatoes but you can remove if your family prefers. Layer potatoes, sauce and sausage and then repeat. I used a 5 qt slow cooker and cooked on low for 6-8 hours. Remove the lid and toss the cheese on and cover back up for 5 minutes or until melted.  You can also make this in the oven in a 9″ x 13″ inch pan and cook at 350 degrees for  1 1/2 hours then add the cheese and put back in the oven until melted.

I followed the recipe exactly, except I was a ninja a puréed onion, carrots and celery and then cooked that in the skillet the sausage was in. I also puréed the cream of mushroom soup, milk and sour cream. If my children or husband found even a trace of a vegetable they would not eat it. I told them the orange color was from ketchup! Lol they loved it!!!!

I made it tonight. I did it in the oven with shredded hash browns. The family loved it. We will
    Be having it regularly.

I just halved the recipe as I just cook for one. I made full recipe for pot luck and they wiped it out in 15 minutes.

Update: I purchased a casserole slow cooker and made this watching carefully, it only took 4 hours on low vs 6 hours in regular slow cooker. Yea for the casserole slow cooker. Love it❤️

    1. I agree. I prepared this recipe as an entree an had to really scatter the meat to have enough for two layers. The family loved it!

  3. I personaly have an allergy to an ingredient in “cream of ” soups so I make my own. Unsure about the lady here. Hate when a lot of premade foods have soy in them.

    1. Help me to understand why you don’t want to use cream of mushroom soup and them maybe I will know of an alternative.

      1. I can substitute the other ingredients, but i am unsure of what to use in place of the cream soup. I am lactose intolerant and cannot have the milk products. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am not sure how that would work out. I would recommend baking it if you don’t have a crock pot available.

  4. I’m thinking this casserole needs to make an appearance at my house after church on Sunday. It looks like the perfect dish for Sunday dinner – fry up some eggs to serve on top and my family will be happy! Thanks for linking up on the Celebrate 365 National Pork Month Blog Party.
