Welcome to this weeks Two Maids a Baking!!
It is strawberry season and that means one thing around here
Strawberry Shortcakes!!
If you are anything like me you will know what I’m talking about when it comes to berries.
I always have to buy more than I need because I like to snack while I’m baking!!
I start by mixing up the dough.
Add flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in the shortening. Mix until it looks like fine crumbs.
Add the milk until just blended.
On lightly floured surface, gently smooth dough into a ball
Knead 20 to 25 times
Roll out to 1/2 inch thick
Use a floured 3-inch cutter, I use a cup
Bake them up 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet
Split warm shortcakes in half. Spread with butter
Layer with strawberries
and layer with sweetened whipping cream
and repeat
Final product!! Yummy!

I must admit…I have never made from scratch shortcakes before and this has me absolutely going to try it out. How can I go wrong right? Plus I love your powdered sugar in the whip cream. Love. I doubled up today and linked up Bacon Almond Chocolate Brittle. It’s not baked but it’s yummy!
I’m going to have to dig out my Grandma Lyons’ recipe and share it next week. It IS strawberry time isn’t it? Good to see you both yesterday!
Yum. I heart Strawberry Shortcakes. Never made them myself though. Thanks for sharing, and hosting!

Two weeks ago my daughter and I made a batch of strawberry muffins that tasted exactly like strawberry shortcake. We whipped up some cream and ate muffins with forks — Mmmm! (The recipe is listed on our blog under the Muffin Monday tab.) Blessings!
How ironic! We both made strawberry shortcakes! Thank you for hosting this link party!
I can’t wait until my ninety-seven strawberry plants start bearing! Yes, 97, and that’s from 3 plants that I bought last year. Your shortcakes look so yummy!! 🙂
oh yum! Those little shortcakes look so good! My garden strawberries are just beginning to ripen-so excited!
