Easy King Cake with Pillsbury Hot Roll Mix

Ingredients

Sweet Dough

Cinnamon Filling

  • 1 cup Brown sugar firmly packed
  • 1/3 cup All purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Butter softened
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp Cinnamon

Cream Cheese Glaze

  • 2 Tbsp Butter softened
  • 1 1/2 oz Cream cheese
  • 3/4 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Milk
  • 1/4 tsp Vanilla extract

Instructions

Sweet Dough

  • In a large bowl combine the dry ingredients.
  • Add the water, butter and egg and stir until the dough pulls away from the side of the bowl.
  • Lightly flour a service and kneed the dough for 5 minutes or until smooth
  • Cover the dough and let rest for 5 minutes.

Cinnamon Filling

  • In a small bowl combing the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter with a fork.
  • On a lightly floured surface roll dough to a 10 x 15 inch rectangle.
  • Crumble cinnamon mixture evenly over dough.
  • Cut dough into three equal strips, long thin strips.
  • Roll each strip up individually.
  • Move all three rolls onto a greased cookie sheet.
  • Gently braid the three strands together, gently tucking the ends into the beginning to form a ring.
  • Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled.
  • Heat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Glaze

  • In a medium bowl beat the butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer until blended.
  • Add powdered sugar, milk and vanilla and mix until smooth.
  • Evenly spread over king cake.
  • Shake sprinkles on top of wet icing.
  • Before serving gently embed the baby up underneath the bottom side of the cake.
