How to fill a cupcake – 2 Maids a Baking

This past weekend I had the pleasure to make some cupcakes for my friend Hoosier Farm Babe for a baby shower she was hosting. She wanted chocolate cupcakes decorated with pink and blue and with a “little buckaroo” western theme. I found these neat western candy molds and I knew exactly what I was going to do!
I love filling cupcakes! It adds a little extra yummy surprise! Filling cupcakes is also really easy!! Start by making your cupcakes. Any recipe or mix will do! You can buy one of these fancy things, like this Cuisipro Cupcake Corer for a couple bucks or you can just cut a small circle and pop out the center.

Make sure and leave cake on all sides and bottom to hold the filling or icing in.

Add you filling, I used some Chocolate Bavarian Cream I picked up from our local cake supply shop. You could also mix something fun into your icing like nutella or peanut butter, make a ganache or just fill it with regular icing!

Top with icing and decorate!

I melted some colored chocolates and filled my candy folds.
Gently pat the mold on the counter to even out the chocolate and release any air bubbles. The candies should set up in 10 – 15 minutes on the counter or I always pop my in the fridge for around 5 minutes.

After the chocolates cool, I gently removed them from the mold and dusted with some edible gold dust to show off the fun designs!

So excited to see what you all link up this week!!

  2. Hi Liz
First of all – thank you so much for explaining how to fill cupcakes. I bake a lot (!) but never cupcakes, and it’s about time. They look so beautiful and delicious, and now I understand how you fill them.

Thank you also for hosting this party every week.
