Eat, Drink, Play by color: Orange
This post is all about the color ORANGE.
Here are quick links to the other colors/dinner ideas, RED, ORANGE, YELLOW , GREEN, BLUE and PURPLE.
This plate turned out to be my favorite. And was the easiest color for me to come up with food ideas for, I guess I just love orange food!
I tried to have around 5 things for each color/meal including a meat, starch, fruit, veggie and dairy item (we are dairy farmers you know!).
The main dish for this plate was my recipe for Orange Chicken Meatballs. A more kid friendly twist on a classic. Kids love meatballs and that was my reasoning for making this recipe the way I did.
The sides were butternut squash, cantaloupe, oranges and carrots. We used alphabet cookies cutters in american cheese to spell out the word Orange.
The verdict? Our oldest son (3 years old) was all about the meatballs but was a little taken back by the orange flavoring. After I explained that’s how they were supposed to taste for Orange Day, he ate them. I loved them and would make them on a regular basis but my picky eater husband was less than impressed. All the sides were gobbled up by all of us!
