This is one of those desserts I would have never thought I would have liked until I tried it.
You see I am not a big fan of cool whip, cream cheese or pudding. But, apparently when you put them all together I love it!
You start by making the first layer.
Mix the flour, melted butter and nuts.
Spread into 9×13 pan and bake.
Start on the second layer.
Mix together cream cheese, powdered sugar and cool whip.
Spread over 1st layer.
Put in fridge to cool.
Mix together pudding.
Pour over second layer.
Even out the layer.
Top with remaining cool whip.
Store in fridge until ready to serve.
Enjoy!!
Robert Redford Dessert:
1st Layer:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 sticks melted butter
1/2 cup chopped nuts
2nd Layer:
1 cup powdered sugar
1 8 oz. package softened cream cheese
1 cup cool whip
3rd Layer:
1 large package instant pudding mix (I prefer chocolate)
3 cups milk
4th Layer:
remaining cool whip
Mix 1st layer and press into 9×13 pan, will seem skimpy – just keep flattening it out in the pan. Bake 15 minutes at 375 degrees. Remove and cool. Mix 2nd layer together and spread over 1st layer. Place in fridge to cool. Mix the pudding with milk and whip for 2 minutes. Spread over second layer. Spread remaining cool whip over all and chill. Garnish with chopped nuts or chocolate shavings.
My husband’s favorite dessert that I’ve been making for 40 years. Love it cuz it’s so easy.
Have been making this for 20+ years, minus the nuts. It was called mud pie when I first came across the recipe. It’s a favorite in our house!!
I just made this yesterday for one of the desserts for tonight. My recipe is a little different but you probably would not be able to taste the difference. Mine is called Chocolate Torte. I have made it lemon, coconut, and butterscotch by changing only the pudding.
I make this using butterscotch pudding and put some chopped peacans on top, love it!
Oh and we always called it “special stuff”. Cause one day my son said can I have some of that “stuff” and I said what stuff and he said “you know that special stuff”!!
I have to ask why you call it “Robert Redford” dessert? I have never heard it called that. We have it all the time at church dinners!
The name I grew up with is “Better than Robert Redford” lol! Not sure why they called it that… Maybe they thought he was a hottie!! lol!
Great recipe I published it is a church cookbook Love it may make it tomorrow.
I LOVE THIS STUFF! I saw on FB page someone asked why it was named “Robert Redford Desssert” – my Mom always told me that it used to be called “Better Than Sex Dessert”, one time someone said even better than sex with Robert Redford and also proper lady’s did not use the word sex nor were they to associate it with their dessert so people just started calling it “Robert Redford” – true or not I have no idea but totally makes sense to me!!!!!!
One of my favorites, but I eat mine minus the crust!
Wow this is a staple for family dinners and get togethers! We just call if chocolate dessert! I like the name you have given it better 🙂
This is very similar to my Mom’s Signature Stripe Delight Pie. A family favorite!
This is such a HUGE church staple for any kind of dinner. My whole family makes this dessert. DANG! Now I’m missing it! Stinker! I still love ya anyway!
That crust looks AMAZING. I don’t like chocolate pudding either – but this? THIS I would devour. Thanks for hosting!
This is Brad’s favorite and he has been asking me to make it for a couple weeks now, but I keep forgetting to buy pudding when I go to the store.
I love this dessert! Thanks so much for hosting 🙂
your dessert looks yummy! thanks for hosting!
hhhmmm I will have to overlook the fact that you don’t love those three items, since you did make an awesome dessert with all of them:-) Thanks for hosting the baking fun!!!
