Mamaw’s 5 Hour Beef Stew is an old fashioned, thick, beef stew recipe that easy is to make and a family favorite!
Grandma’s have the best recipes and this one comes from my husband’s Mamaw! I also got this Sugar Cream Pie recipes from her that is just as tasty!
This is one of my favorite meals to make during harvest. It feeds the whole crew and is a farmer favorite. I have made this recipe in both a dutch oven and in the slow cooker. Slow cooker instructions are included in the recipe notes section below.

RECIPE NOTES:
Can this recipe be made in the slow cooker? Yes it can! I have made it in a 7 quart Crock Pot. Cook 6-8 hours on low. All slow cookers cook differently so I always recommend keeping a close eye the first time you make a recipe.
Can you make this recipe without a specific ingredient? Sure, but I can’t speak for how it is going to taste since I make it as the recipe below states.
